INSTALLATIONS

TOKYO TRIPES

Synopsis

"Tokyo tripes" est une installation vidéo présentée au Videoart Center Tokyo en juin 2002.

Introduction

>forget about "ratatouille" (Mediterranean way of making vegetables: to put all together in a pot and boil it in the same sauce... it makes a big mixture of taste and forms)
>choose the "lunch box" style (things are separated in special spaces and staged to be complementary one to each other, in order to conserve the specific taste)
>shoot the images with chopsticks (to hold one element at the time, with the extremity of the zoom)
>make the montage with repetitions and variations (like variations of sushi´s), tend towards abstraction in unity (like the little part of the fish which stands for the whole fish)
>not overcook... try to let things in their raw state
>don´t take the rules too seriously: spontaneity, improvisations about arrangement and timing are welcome !
>eat by picking up little pieces in the different parts of the lunch box, take your time...

Tokyo_notes

Being sort of "addicted" to trips in cities, I often use the camera as tool to filter daily life and simple details of big cities. By squaring things out of their context, I can in a way concentrate about very particular objects or views and try to come closer on what stands behind them: humans, emotions, ambiances...
The first step is to get to an interaction between the city and me, to get involved in a sort of discussion with buildings, movements and persons passing by, and then with putting those images in a new space, to see how people who live in this city are influenced by the space and the constructions which are surrounding them.
