Ulrich Fischer

Biography

Since 1994, Ulrich Fischer is working with film and video, installations or performances and works since the last years more and more with new media interactivity.

He is the founder of the production and postproduction company called C-SIDE Productions and is giving theoretical and technical curses about cinema.
He graduated from Geneva Art School, the E.S.A.V. in 2000.

About the film works:
Between 1996 and 1998, Fischer made several 16mm films: “20 Lustres”, a 15 minute collaborative film; “Es geht auch schneller”, a 12 minute experimental animation; “Rendez-vous”, a 12 minute fiction film; and “Un îlot dans la ville”, an 18 minute documentary. Almost all these films were shown in several festivals and cinemas throughout the world.
In 2000, he made “La ville de S”, a 35mm short fiction film which was shown in a dozen festivals and broadcasted several times by “ARTE”.
His latest videos, “4 courtes pièces” where realised in 2004, part of a commissioned program from Swiss television SFDRS.

About the installations and performances:
Ulrich Fischer is also working with images in public spaces or special events. For example, “Le talon du Perron”, an interactive video installation in a public space in Geneva during summer 2003, "Generevan" a photographic installation in the Armenian town of Erevan in 2003, "Passages" a video installation made from urban performances in several cities (Basel, Berlin, Lausanne, Geneva, Tokyo, Zürich). He also did several visual performances along with music events, theatre pieces or dance projects.

Other occupation and jobs:

He worked for the Viper Festival in the selection comitee of the international competition between 2000 and 2002 and was part of the film commission of Migros in Zürich (2002 to 2008).

He was involved in the cinema studies at the ECAL as a teacher between 2002 and 2007; he is also gving technical curses in different insitutions (Focal, HEAD, ECAL, RTS...)

Present occupation and projet:

His latest new media project, "Walking the Edit" began in 2008 whithin the Réseau Cinéma in Switzerland.

This project is now continuing within C-SIDE Production and has been presented in Paris (september 2010), Geneva (december 2010) and in several other conferences and venues.

In 2011, Ulrich Fischer created with Nicolas Goy (head of the technical developpement of the projet "Walking the Edit") the new structure Memoways.
